Narcissus
Art Installation
Installation by Renato Baldin
Featuring photos by Filipe Paulo
May 25 - Jun 10
In Greek mythology, there once lived a man of unparalleled beauty. Tragically, his striking appearance led him to become infatuated with his own reflection in a lake, where he gazed upon himself until his death. In that very spot, a flower blossomed, bearing his name.
Narcissus
Multidisciplinary artist Renato Baldin delves into Filipe Paulo's evocative photographs to present a queer and decolonizing perspective on male beauty. Baldin's images captivate with their sensitivity and precision, portraying a diverse spectrum of male bodies. Yet the installation challenges the notion of a singular, unchanging definition of beauty and masculinity.
The waters in which we reflect have transformed: no longer still and crystalline, but now flowing and turbulent.
The mirrors are shattered; the images, multifaceted.
Beauty refuses to be confined to a single form.
Masculinity is not a given but a construct.
Our existence surpasses the bounds of a single reflection.
We are manifold, diverse, and fluid. We are liberated.
Our image proliferates, floods, adorns, and breathes life.
